The first course is intended to offer background knowledge necessary for paraeducators serving learners who are deafblind, including the role of the intervener in educational settings. Course content includes an overview of deafblindness and instructional strategies, the importance of building trusting relationships and positive self-image, an overview of sensory systems and ways that learners who are deafblind access information, and ways to understand what may impact the ability of learners to actively engage in educational programs.
