Through Open University, you can take space-available classes in Africana Studies at the discipline’s birthplace, without formal admission to SF State.
Birthplace of Black Studies
Black Studies was born at SF State, through the 1968 - 1969 strike, led by the Black Students Union and the Third World Liberation Front, in a struggle for civil rights, equity and social justice. Over 50 years later, the College of Ethnic Studies and Africana Studies proudly remain at their historic home.
