American Indian Studies Courses Open to Community

The campuses of San Francisco State University on the San Francisco peninsula and north bay are located within the occupied territories of the Ramaytush Ohlone and the Coastal Miwok (who, along with the Southern Pomo, are organized as the Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria).

Open University

Through Open University, you can take space-available undergraduate classes in American Indian Studies without formal admission to SF State.

American Indian Studies

The mission of the American Indian Studies Department is to educate, inspire and prepare students for engaging careers and/or graduate school and to be an educational hub and site for community participation and learning focused on the Indigenous peoples of the northern Americas.

Summer Classes

These summer courses are offered online and are available to the community through Open University:

• AIS 205 American Indians and U.S. Laws
• AIS 470 American Indian Ethnicity: Problems in Identity
