How to Apply: Psychology

Apply through Cal State Apply. Be sure to read this entire page before you start your application.

Fall Admission

  • October 1: Application opens
  • April 1: Application deadline
  • April 30: Deadline for all official transcripts to be received

Spring Admission

  • May 1: Application opens
  • October 1: Application deadline
  • October 31: Deadline for all official transcripts to be received

Note: Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis once all materials are received. Hard copy transcripts may take 4 to 6 weeks to process.

Follow these steps to apply through Cal State Apply:

  1. Review Application Tips
    Before you start, take a moment to read the Cal State Apply Application Tips to guide you through the process.
  2. Start Your Application
    • Go to Cal State Apply
    • Select the term you want to apply for and click Apply
    • Create your account and complete your Extended Profile
      • For “Degree Goal,” select First Bachelor’s Degree
  3. Fill Out the Application
    • Complete all sections: Personal Information, Academic History and Supporting Materials
  4. Add the Psychology Program
    • Click Add Program
    • Search for San Francisco State University under campus
    • Choose Extended Education as the source
    • Select the correct term and choose the application for Pre-Bachelor Applicants
  5. Answer Questions and Upload Documents
    • Complete all required and optional questions
    • Upload your Unofficial Transcript
  6. Submit Your Application
    • Review your information and submit when ready

To be eligible for admission, you must:

  • Be a California resident or live in an authorized state (see State Authorization)
  • Have completed at least 60 transferable semester units (or 90 quarter units)
  • Have a 2.0 GPA or higher in all transferable coursework
  • Be in good academic standing at your last college or university
  • Have completed all lower-division GE requirements (34 semester or 51 quarter units) with a C- or better

To be accepted into the program, you must submit official transcripts from all colleges you’ve attended.

Exceptions:
If you are a current SFSU degree-seeking student or a graduate, you don’t need to submit transcripts.

When to Submit:
Upload unofficial transcripts with your Cal State Apply application. Official transcripts will be required later.
