Paul P. DeAngelis runs his own firm in San Francisco and concentrates on real estate matters. Since 2018, he has taught five different courses at SF State’s Paralegal Studies program, most often PLS 305 (Investigation, Discovery & Trial Prep), PLS 310 (Legal Ethics & Communication Skills), and PLS 410 (Real Estate Law). In 1996, Paul graduated with honors from Boston University School of Law. Since 1998, he has practiced law in San Francisco at litigation firms prior to starting his firm in 2015. Paul has worked closely with paralegals on litigation and trial teams. Paul swims in the San Francisco Bay as a member of the South End Rowing Club and received its Volunteer of the Year Award in 2022.

Vivian Shreve has been a legal secretary/assistant for more than 40 years. Vivian has been an Executive Assistant at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in Palo Alto, California since 2008. Vivian is the current President of SCCoLPA, where she has been a member since 2013, and she is the current CCLS Chair for Legal Professionals Inc. She is passionate about the legal field and about SCCoLPA and is looking forward to her term as President. 

In her spare time, Vivian enjoys cooking for her family, spending as much time as possible with her three grandsons, working with her 5-year old German shepherd and playing softball.

Jane values helping people have access to the legal system. She worked as a mentor at the Bayview/Hunters Point Community Legal Clinic, providing guidance in family law cases. She has done pro bono family law work through the Justice & Diversity Center of The Bar Association of San Francisco. She has also volunteered for the Employment Law Center’s Workers’ Rights Clinic.

Professor Adrienne Brungess will discuss the difference between the Bluebook and the California Style Manual. Professor Adrienne Brungess is a proud McGeorge alumna (’96) who joined the McGeorge School of Law faculty in 2002. She teaches in the law school’s distinctive legal writing program, Global Lawyering Skills (GLS), and teaches popular alternative dispute resolution and negotiation courses. Because of her extensive background in ADR and negotiation, Professor Brungess’ students gain comprehensive skills in processes and techniques in a simulation-focused curriculum.

M. Anderson Berry is an experienced civil litigator, recently employed by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of California. As an Assistant United States Attorney in the Affirmative Civil Enforcement Unit, Mr. Berry handled a wide variety of False Claims Act cases and other civil claims, recovering millions of dollars for the U.S. Government.

Before working as a federal civil prosecutor, Mr. Berry worked for a prominent global law firm, where he represented clients in international arbitration and complex commercial litigation. He worked with clients in a broad array of industries, including oil and gas, alcohol distribution, retail and pharmaceuticals

Mr. Berry grew up in California, where he graduated from U.S. Berkeley School of Law where he was the Senior Editor for both the Berkley Journal of Criminal Law and Berkeley Journal of International Law. More about Mr. Berry.

SFLPA and LPI Scholarships for Paralegal Studies Students

SFLPA and LPI Scholarships for Paralegal Studies Students
Apply by April 1, 2022

The San Francisco Legal Professionals Association (SFLPA) offers a scholarship in the amount of $1,000, in memory of SFLPA Life Member and Past President Alice O’Dell. Legal Professionals, Inc. (LPI) offers a scholarship in the amount of $2,000 for First Place and $1,000 for Second Place in memory of Eula Mae Jett.

Scholarship Requirements

For purposes of these scholarships, a career in the “legal field” shall be interpreted and defined as: (1) Legal Secretary, including Receptionist, (2) Legal Assistant/Paralegal, (3) Court Reporter, and (4) Law Office Administration.

There are three different levels for the scholarships awarded. The details and categories are outlined below:

  • Category A – HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
    Applicants shall be restricted to seniors who will have successfully completed high school by the end of June and will be enrolled in the fall semester immediately following the school year in a college or business school offering a course of study in the legal field.
     
  • Category B – COLLEGE STUDENTS
    Applicants shall be restricted to students who will have completed at least one year of college by June of the school year, and who will be enrolled in the fall semester immediately following the school year in a college or business school in a course of study in the legal field, until all such courses have been taken to satisfy the requirements for a degree or certificate in said legal related program.
     
  • Category C – CAREER CHANGE STUDENT
    Applicants shall be restricted to students who will be enrolled in the fall semester in a college or business school in a course of study in the legal field and shall be an individual who either (a) desires to re-enter the workforce after a prolonged absence but requires training or specialized education in order to qualify as a candidate for a position in the legal field; or (b) has been in the workforce for a number of years but desires to enter the legal field and wants to receive the training or specialized education needed to do so.

In addition all scholarships under each category are applicable to California residents only.

Required documents for both applications: scholarship application forms, a biographical letter, an unofficial school transcript, and a resume (if applicable). Documents must be typewritten and submitted in triplicate no later than April 1, 2022. All applications should be mailed to SFLPA’s Scholarship Chairman at the following address:
