Kent Lau earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from City University of Hong Kong in 1995. His research involved the kinetics study of electron transfer reactions with Ru(VI) dioxo complex. He worked as an Analytical Chemist at Hong Kong Government Lab for over ten years before immigrating to the US. As a certified HOKLAS technical assessor in Hong Kong, Professor Lau routinely analyzed various types of samples, including food products, children's products and construction materials.
Professor Lau has been a lecturer at SF State since 2004. He has taught a variety of undergraduate Chemistry courses, including General Chemistry and Quantitative Chemistry and has been with the Post-Bac Program since fall 2022. Dr. Lau enjoys teaching and feels rewarded when his students master concepts in Chemistry. Being passionate about the environment, he hopes to inspire his students to think “green” and to be thoughtful about their impact on the planet.
